Ya it's a booger to clean them thing's. With a New gun you have to clean the bore and cylinders BEFORE you shoot it! All gun manufactures pack their product with a shipping grease to protect the gun from elements that could/can be detrimental to storage/shelf life. Even if you don't shoot it's a good idea to clean that stuff off and give it a light oiling.
Without writing a ten page disertation on the subject, the "faux" black powders as you mentioned are/do clean up easier but they DO leave some "salt's" that can be corrosive. Generally speaking mild soapy warm water for cleaning then a good drying followed with light oiling, you'll be fine. I'm guessing with a pistol 10-15 minute job? The biggest deal is it need's to be done after shooting, not "tomorrow"! Because tomorrow usually becomes the day after and if it's done then, it's too late.
The "cap's" actually leave more corrosive elements than the powder, so it's all those nipples that need to come out and be cleaned
. not ta scare ya off but you do gotta clean it
