Nipples wear out.(period) Chucking the threaded portion in a drill tight enough to spin it and lightly removing the "peened" end does nothing but wreck the threaded portion of the nipple that has to be re-inserted to the drum. Continued use of a worn nipple, in particulare, one with a reconditioned "peened" end will do nothing but complicate the action of the gun due too other complications such as "gas cutting", "blowback" and position of "hammer fall".
As far as I know, CVA does NO warrenty work on any of their traditional firearms! They sold out! They are currently nothing but in-lines!

: DO NOT TRY TO REMOVE THE DRUM!!!! C.V.A.
: drums are not a regular drum. They have a
: long thread that goes through the barrel and
: half of the breech plug. Removing it voids
: any warrantee from C.V.A.. What you are
: dealing with is natural peening, and the
: nipples can be repaired by simply chucking
: the threaded portion of the nipple up in a
: drill, and lightly remove the swelled
: portion at the top of the nipple with a fine
: cut file. If it seems like the spring in
: your gun is a little weak, rounding the
: outside edge of the top of the nipple will
: focus the force, and slow down the peening
: problem as well. I owned a C.V.A. mountain
: rifle and shot it until it was a smooth
: bore. I have been through all this, and
: more.TTYL.

: It sounds like normal wear or
: "peening" of the nipple. That is
: especially true if you dry fire or snap the
: hammer with no cap in place. Do you take the
: nipple out when you clean? I do and I leave
: it out until my next shooting session. You
: might also try the Ampco nipples from Track
: of the Wolf. They don't rust and seem to
: last longer.

: This is the second nipple this has happened
: to. I have a .54 cal CVA percussion. I use
: #11 primers on it. I had problems with the
: orginal nipple after about 2 years of use.
: The primers would fit on, but when the
: hammer fell nothing happened. It would take
: a second hammer fall to set the primer off.
: What it appeared happened is that the nipple
: had expanded and the primer would only fit
: on so far. Because it was tight, the hammer
: would only push the primer down sligthly,
: and it would not contact to fire. I replaced
: the nipple and solved the problem. After 2
: years with the new nipple the same thing has
: happened.
:
: Suggestions on why this is occuring? I would
: like to solve it so that I don't have to
: keep replacing nipples every few years, and
: finding out when I need to replace them when
: there are deer in the sights (has occurred
: on both occasions).
:
: Thanks
