Hi Fred,
The full name is molybdenum disulphide and it is as black as the ace of spades. It is also not as sticky as normal type axle grease. I found it to be quite good in preventing hard fouling. A quick wipe would have the bore looking pretty good.

: Molybdenum?? is that like axle grease? or
: closer to toad snot n weasel piss?

: Hi Roberto,
: There is a patch lube called Mink
: oil available from track of the Wolf web
: site which they say is good for match
: shooting. With regard to the patch the
: fabric should be tight enough with the
: projectile that it requires some force to
: seat the projectile without having to thump
: it down with the ramrod. If possible fire a
: few shots and retrieve the patches. check
: patches for blowout holes in the patch and
: for rips where the rifling seats on the
: patch. If non of the above is evident you
: have probably got it right. Also use fabric
: with a very tight weave for best results. At
: one stage I was using molybdenum based
: grease as a lube. It is very soft with great
: friction reducing capabilities. Worked quite
: well in the absence of the proper thing.
: Good luck

: Oh boy, when you start asking about what's a
: good gun and what's not, you'll get as many
: opinion as asking "whats the best
: lube'.
: I own a Cabelas "Sporterized"
: Hawkin in .54 and it a GREAT Gun.!!I love
: it!I have taken my share of prizes and game
: with it. The Cabelas rifles are made by
: Lyman. They have Lyman coil spring locks and
: Lyman Italian made Barrels. For $200 you had
: better git it before its gone!
: The kit is a "beginner" grade kit
: easy enough to learn on if/when you study
: all of the available info on-line and are at
: least a little handy with hand tools and
: wood finishing.
: The "Sportsterized" I have is
: only different buy haveing a flat rubber
: butt plate rather than the curved brass.
: that curvy butt plate just don't fit my
: short fat puddgy Masivley Muscular shoulder
: frame.
: As you search further you will find
: arguements about, "twist rates",
: length of barrel, coilspring locks vrs leaf
: spring ect,,. Almost all of the arguments
: boil down too "Buy my gun" and or
: "Spend more money"!
: My experiance with that Cabelas Hawkin is
: and has been positive since the day I bought
: it.
: Luck too ya,tacks
