Oh boy, when you start asking about what's a good gun and what's not, you'll get as many opinion as asking "whats the best lube'.
I own a Cabelas "Sporterized" Hawkin in .54 and it a GREAT Gun.!!I love it!I have taken my share of prizes and game with it. The Cabelas rifles are made by Lyman. They have Lyman coil spring locks and Lyman Italian made Barrels. For $200 you had better git it before its gone!
The kit is a "beginner" grade kit easy enough to learn on if/when you study all of the available info on-line and are at least a little handy with hand tools and wood finishing.
The "Sportsterized" I have is only different buy haveing a flat rubber butt plate rather than the curved brass. that curvy butt plate just don't fit my short fat puddgy Masivley Muscular shoulder frame.
As you search further you will find arguements about, "twist rates", length of barrel, coilspring locks vrs leaf spring ect,,. Almost all of the arguments boil down too "Buy my gun" and or "Spend more money"!
My experiance with that Cabelas Hawkin is and has been positive since the day I bought it.
Luck too ya,tacks
