well my pleasure ta meet ya. What i use for my .40 cal rifle and my 45 pistole is a off the shelf precut round patches that have a diameter of about 1 1/8 inches or 2.8 mm to you guy's. Anything a bit larger up too 3-3.5mm is ok too!
The only thing the gun needs is a snug fit of the patch/ball combo to impart the rifling to the ball. excess fabric over the PRB is really a mute issue as long as it's not "rudley" excessive. Know what I mean?
Lube; Spit is good, as long as you can consistantly provide the same amount of spit, to the same size patch each time you load. And, if you shoot before the spit dries up. Natural lubes like olive oil, veg oil, bees wax, or a combination of above is ok too.(Sueit,Beef, sheep, deer,,) STAY AWAY from any kind of PETROLIUM BASED OILS!
40 grns of powder sounds a little stout.
