This does have a drum where the nipple screws into, but the drum is fixed to the barrel. There is a screw that can be removed to clean the drum, but the drum does not move on it's own. If there is a fix I am interested.
Thanks for the reply.

: Is this a "drum" breech type barrel?
: meaning; does the nipple screw into a round
: barrel like extention from the barrel?
: If so, some times that drum will turn
: forward just a fraction of an inch and the
: hammer does not fall squarely on the nipple.
: Instead it will strike the rear of the
: nipple and not cause enough pressure to
: ignite the cap, it will however deformate
: the nipple itself. There is a fix.

: This is the second nipple this has happened
: to. I have a .54 cal CVA percussion. I use
: #11 primers on it. I had problems with the
: orginal nipple after about 2 years of use.
: The primers would fit on, but when the
: hammer fell nothing happened. It would take
: a second hammer fall to set the primer off.
: What it appeared happened is that the nipple
: had expanded and the primer would only fit
: on so far. Because it was tight, the hammer
: would only push the primer down sligthly,
: and it would not contact to fire. I replaced
: the nipple and solved the problem. After 2
: years with the new nipple the same thing has
: happened.
:
: Suggestions on why this is occuring? I would
: like to solve it so that I don't have to
: keep replacing nipples every few years, and
: finding out when I need to replace them when
: there are deer in the sights (has occurred
: on both occasions).
:
: Thanks
