Is there an advantage for larger cal.?
At the ranges you state I don't think so.
My thoughts;
-the .32 albeit smaller and accurate at 50 is a much heavier barrel as compared to larger cal of same barrel size, it's just a smaller hole in the same chunk of iron. Which may be a factor in the Biathalon aspect.
-the smaller weight ball has less kinetic energy to expend on steel or tip-over type targets, they can "hit" but not knock over some targets.
- the larger cal ball cut's a bigger hole on paper.
The 32. does have it's place, and they like almost all calibers, can be loaded down in charge to provide low recoil, and maintain accuracy at close range. The .40 and .45 caliber seems to be a popular/succesful round for the youth and the Ladies in my region here in the mid-west.
Good questions, that's my two bits, Good Luck
