Yes; it's called the Greenhill Formula the studies of Sir Alfred George Greenhill at the Artillery College, Woolwich, England. mid 19th century. Most all of his study is/was with elongated projectiles and spin rates. The intristic problem with the Patched Round Ball and the application of the mathmatics, is too impart the twist rate of the bore too the spherical projectile with the variables of; patch thickness and lubrication properties, the charge size and burn rate, the actual cut and shape of the rifling, the length of the bore and size and weight of the sphere itself.
So yep, it's been figuerd out all right. The amazing thing is, after 400 years, they still argue about it
