Clean and dry is key. I don't own revolvers so I can't speak of them first hand.
I have kept charges in my rifle for as long as 6 weeks and still had reliable ignition. However, this was a hunting type situation in the fall of the year and I was very carefull to avoid wide temperature swings, I kept the rifle outdoors and away from possible sources of high humidity. I wanted to avoid condensation of moisture on the metal parts fouling the powder charge. There were no adverse affets to the barrel or mechinism from this extented period.
