777 leaves a bunch of crud and is really dirty. I have never had any luck with it. American Pioneer powder is great stuff and is really clean. I have tried them all and American Pioneer is the best all around. They make sticks and powder. I like the powders for my old sidelock.
: New to the sport myself, but I've been
: studyin'...
: Pyrodex pellets come in 30 and 50 grain.
: Some sidelocks don't like 'em much. They
: have an "igniter layer" on the
: back end and are designed mainly for inline
: ignition setups.
: Pyrodex isn't "smokeless", but a
: black powder substitute. I don't think it's
: changed in the past decade. One of the new
: powder substitutes on the market is
: Hodgden's 777. Supposed to burn cleaner than
: BP or Pyrodex. Haven't used it, so I can't
: say whether that's true or not. Some have
: reported some nasty hard crud left behind by
: burnin' it.
: Welcome back to smokepolin'!
