Revolver Shotgun

I like to hunt squirrels with my Ruger .22 MK III, but I wanted to have a good backup gun for a squirrel on the run, I usually hunt in really thick brush, so shotguns are probably a bit too bulky. Would it be possible to safely load my Uberti Walker colt with shot? Could such a load even take a squirrel? Would it damage my gun? Just thought that you folks would be the people to ask.
