As I recall you can load up to about 40 gr of 3F in that little pistol and still have the ball inside the barrel. That's about the maximum I'd use. However, it's not very far across a poker table, so any load above about 10 gr is plenty to get the job done. I built one about 30 years ago, and put about 5 rounds through it on two different occasions, using somewhere around 20 gr.
