The ring cut off, seal sounds logical to me, but I still lube just in case.
The chainfire arguement has sound reasons on both ends of the cylinder. I don't debate much and accept that things are as they are. Chainfires are real, so therefore I try to prevent them. Which end of the cylinder causes it will not be proven so the debate will go on and on and on. To me, it is a waste of time.
If you don't want to lube, don't lube. If there is a good solid ring of lead cut off the ball, sure seems to me like the chamber should be sealed.
