Had to chuckle, Jason. I'm fortunate to be able to shoot on my own land -- no trips to the range are necessary.
As for swabbing, there are lots of good black powder solvents on the market. If I'm not done shooting for the day, I pour about half a shot glass of solvent down the (pointed up) barrel, then run one soaked patch down it. That forces the liquid out the nipple hole and cleans things out well enough to keep on shooting. Follow with several dry patches until they come out clean and dry. Fire off a couple of caps with no powder charge to remove any moisture left between the nipple and the breech plug.
After shooting, it gets a more thorough cleaning with hot, soapy water, followed by rinsing with hot clean water, and finally a thin coating, inside and out, of RustPrufe.
