How old was the powder you were using when the sabots started feelin' tight? Older powder isn't likely to ignite as well and could be leaving lots of fouling in your barrel. These guns foul pretty quick as it is, and that can make it more difficult to shove any projectile down the bore.
I give both my rifles a swabbin' after about every five shots. Any more, and I feel like I start takin' chances with misfires and hangfires.
