Lookin' at a Rossi .50 in-line 209 deer rifle with a 23" 1:28 barrell. Owner's manual states that BP and subs other than Pyrodex pellets are dangerous. Specifies that the rifle is designed to use only 2 or 3 pellets.
Goes on to say that only Barnes 250 and 300 sabots are recommended as projectiles.
WTH? Does this mean that if I stuff it with 80 gr. of Goex FFg and a T/C 350 gr. conical that the thing is gonna blow up?
Is it possible that the breech plug is designed in such a way that non-pellet powder won't work?
I like the solid feel, simple design and quick handling of this rifle for brush hunting, but I'm not happy about having to committ to pellets and Barnes sabots exclusively.
