In the spring of 1981 the Chance Crawford Trust Fund Committee started the Annual Chance Crawford Benefit Softball Tournament. The purpose of the event was to help Chance with the expenses of his education, the renovation of his home and physical therapy due to his spinal cord injury. After Chance graduated from college, he was elected Clerk of the Circuit Court for the City of Salem and the Chance Crawford Committee decided to take the proceeds from the tournament and put the money back into the community.
Starting in 1991, the tournament proceeds have been given to handicapped and needy individuals, donated as college scholarships, and presented to many other worthy causes. Since then the tournament has raised close to $325,000.00. If you would like any additional information about scholarships please contact Brad Epperley at the James I. Moyer Sports Complex. The Chance Crawford Benefit Softball Tournament is the first tournament in history to offer teams the opportunity to earn World, National, and State berths in NSA, ASA and USSSA for one tournament entry fee!!!
The top 4 teams in each division earn a World and/or National Berth.
