press first and last bottom buttons at the same time to access speed and direction screen. Speed should read 000 when vehicle is not moving. with car in park, rev engine and be sure speed indication does not increase with RPM. When car is moving, speed number should increase and decrease with speed of car, it will not display speed in mph.
