There is only one way to store Cognac or other high-alcohol spirits for long periods. The bottle must be stored upright and in a cool dark place. Make sure the cork is nice and tight. Using a marker draw a short line on the bottle where the fill level is. From time to time check that the fill level is still the same. If the level drops it is an indication that air is getting into the bottle and the contents are evaporating. It will eventually spoil the contents. If this happens pull the cork and replace it with a brand new one. With proper storage you can get another 75 years out of it.
