Posted by Kurt M. While Old Grand Dad is not necessarily the greatest bourbon in the world, it is the best selling bourbon made in Kentucky. Today it goes for around $17-20 or so a bottle. As you may know the contents, unlike wine, do not improve with age. I would say the bottle has more sentimental value than resale value (especially since it was handed down to you. Personally, I would just hang on to the bottle and make it a conversation piece at appropriate times and your mother-in-law may appreciate the guesture. If you do want to consume the contents, just invite a bunch of friends and go for it.

I remember seeing some older bottles of Old Grand Dad and one had the closure you describe. The top could be used, as you said it, as a gigger or measuring cup. Packaging was more important yesterday than it is today and many a times spirit companies would sell their products in nice looking wrapping or boxes (although I have never seen the box you describe).
