People that drive by your store will see you and perhaps stop by on their next trip. While location is somewhat important, keep in mind that once established people will come (almost) regardless of where you are. We are located in a small center located in a prime area and we had offers to move across the street into a large and brand new shopping center, but declined to do so. I wouldn't worry if I were you. You already said it; it's a great area. Go for it.
Gary, having a liquor store in a strip mall/center in itself is not necessarily a bad thing. There a pros and cons, of course. I believe much more important is the way your store looks and the quality of your inventory. This, combined with service, is the most important quality of your store.
