Guidance on the new vetting and barring scheme
Volunteering England has produced a comprehensive fact-sheet which summarises the key changes associated with the new Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA). This is essential reading for ALL groups who use volunteers or employ workers who come into contact with children or vulnerable adults and details the new vetting responsibilities that will apply variously from October 2009.
As from November 2010, it will be a legal requirement for individuals to register with the ISA if they intend to work or volunteer with vulnerable clients in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, registration will cost a one off fee of £64.
For existing employees and volunteers, there will be a five year phasing-in period for them to become registered. The ISA will provide further information on the structure of the phasing-in period in due course. The guidance sheet includes information on:
• what is ISA and the Vetting and Barring scheme;
• which activities will be affected by the work;
• when will the new scheme be introduced;
• how much the cost will be for organisations.
