Empowering the Voluntary Sector Event
Are you facing difficulties in relationship with public sector bodies?
Are the decisions regarding grants and other forms of funding open, fair and transparent?
Do you want to find out how to use the Compact and public law to protect you organisation and its service users?
The Empowering the Voluntary Sector project has expanded! We are delighted to announce that the Big Lottery Fund has chosen to fund NAVCAs 3-year 'Empowering the Voluntary Sector' project.
The project now brings to together the expertise of Compact Advocacy, based at NCVO, NAVCA and the Public Law Project. The partners will deliver this innovative project consisting of advice in managing disputes and training in using the principles of public law and Compact to both prevent and manage disputes with public bodies until September 2011.
The project will also continue to publish regular newsletters with updates, case studies, and hits and tips to both manage and prevent breaches of public law and non-compliance with the Compact.
The overall aim of the project remains unchanged; to strengthen the relationship between third sector organizations and public bodies and significantly increase opportunities to influence funding and other decisions made by public bodies.

Workshop Nottingham 10.9.09 (EVS128)
The aim of the workshops is to equip third sector organisations to use the principles of public law and the Compact to negotiate effectively with public bodies. Issues covered on the day include how to deal with unfair funding cuts and consultation and how identify if a public body's decision-making processes are lawful.
These intensive and enjoyable workshops are open to all team members, staff and volunteer, from all third sector organisations who are funded by, or seeking funding from, public bodies.
The workshops focus on the experiences of participants, both organisational and personal, in dealing with public bodies and help to identify how to prevent and resolve disputes to the advantage of the third sector.
The workshop includes sessions on
Public law and the Compact
Equality legislation
How to identify things that go wrong
What you can do when faced with these problems
