East Midlands Regional Office Team
Dear Colleagues
As you are aware Coalfields Regeneration Trust has been a major funder in former coalfield areas since being set up in 1999. During that time many projects throughout the East Midlands area have benefited from the grant investment awarded by the Trust.
As with all funders there is a need to review policies and procedures in line with remaining current resources and as we have been vastly oversubscribed during the first year of this current round of funding some difficult decisions had to be made in order to ensure an equitable distribution to as many community and voluntary groups as possible.
In May 2009 our Board of Trustees reviewed our current policy and made some changes to both our Main Grant and Bridging the Gap Programmes the main points of these changes are:
Bridging the Gap Small Grant Programme
The maximum award is now £5,000
Applicants must either be located in an area in the top 50% of 2007 IMD Levels or be of benefit to a community that is in the top 50%.
We are looking to support small community groups who have a constitution or set of formal rules that they operate by.
Attached is a card and a copy of our updated information booklet, copies of the information booklet can also be downloaded from our website at
www.coalfields-regen.org.uk
Main Grant Programme
The Main Grant scheme remains open for capital applications at the present time as part of a broad based sustainable community project. Capital awards from CRT will be capped at £ 200k in 2009/10 , tapering down to a maximum award of £100k in 2010/11.
In the event of applications by statutory bodies they will need to provide a minimum of 20% match funding and demonstrate close working partnerships with Third Sector organisations.
CRT’s Regional Programme Manager should be consulted by applicants to advise whether or not their location of focus is already well provided for by CRT commitments
New projects coming forward should demonstrate a capacity to:
a) assist people into work OR
b) provide training and skills for unwaged people OR
c) increase the number of new transport and community access schemes and
extend volunteering provision
CRT has generously endowed money advice projects in the Coalfields communities of Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire to extend their delivery capacities in a time of great strain and indebtedness. No further revenue funding can be ring fenced for this purpose outside of existing arrangements with delivery partners.
You may wish to refer to the addendum document attached for the main policy amendments to the originally published programme information booklet
