I have great pleasure in inviting you to our Building Better Communities
Workshop. BBC is an eight year initiative launched by the County Council during
2004 and commits to invest around £36 million improving the local environment
across the county. 2009/10 will represent the sixth year of the initiative.
Nottinghamshire County Council are the only local authority in the country to be
delivering such a long term and wide ranging programme of environmental
improvements. BBC has attracted almost £9 million pounds of extra external
funding from partner organizations to enhance some of our planned improvements.
This event is intended to provide practical and realistic information on how to
apply for BBC funding, the types of schemes we are able to deliver and how
organisations such as yours can become more involved with the initiative. BBC
has an excellent track record and the availability of this funding has enabled
enthusiastic and committed local communities to undertake a wide range of
schemes from small scale community conservation and environmental improvements
to substantial highway and physical infrastructure schemes.
County Council officers from our Heritage and Conservation team and Highways
will be available for you to discuss your project ideas with and we will be
showcasing a number of projects which we hope will give you an insight into the
difference BBC can make in local communities.
The venue for our event is The John Fretwell Sporting Complex, Sookholme Road,
Mansfield, Notts NG19 8LL, commencing 10am - 1.30pm (including lunch).
June’s event represents an opportunity for Elected Members, Parish Council and
Community Groups to find out more about the “Building Better Communities”
initiative. Consequently, I anticipate that the event will be very well attended
and would ask you to nominate your areas of interest and representatives
attending on the attached reply slip. Please return this information as soon as
possible.
Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis and it is essential
if you are able to come that you confirm your attendance. An agenda and
directions details will be sent to you in due course.
