I’m writing to you about an exciting opportunity for community buildings in Chesterfield, North East Derbyshire, South Derbyshire, Amber Valley, Bolsover and the whole of Nottinghamshire (except Nottingham City).
Community buildings, such as village halls, community centres, churches and schools, in these areas can now apply for a free energy audit, which includes a feasibility study for a range of renewable energy technologies, and recommendations for energy efficiency.
These studies are being offered free of charge, on a first come first served basis to community groups. 75% of the cost is covered by BRE under the Big Lottery-funded Community Sustainable Energy Programme (CSEP), while the remaining 25% is being supplied by your District, Borough or County Council.
The studies will be carried out by sustainable energy charity Marches Energy Agency (MEA). They will assess the technical and financial viability of installing a range of renewable energy technologies in community buildings, and will also indicate areas where improvements can be made regarding energy efficiency.
The studies are intended to be a stepping-stone towards an application to the capital funding pot available under the CSEP scheme, which will cover up to 50% of the cost of purchasing and installing the technologies identified as appropriate. Applications are most likely to succeed where community buildings face high energy costs, where a high level of building usage would offer an opportunity to raise the profile of renewable energy technologies, and where significant CO2 savings are likely to be made. Further detailed information can be found on the CSEP website at www.communitysustainable.org.uk.
If your community group is interested in receiving a free feasibility study for your building, or if you’d like to know more about the scheme, please contact Joe Bentley at Marches Energy Agency on 01743 277108 or at joe@mea.org.uk.
Only a limited number of free surveys are available, so act now to avoid disappointment!
Do pass this on if you know of other groups in Chesterfield, North East Derbyshire, South Derbyshire, Bolsover, Amber Valley and Nottinghamshire who might be interested.
Apologies if I have accidentally included you and you aren’t in one of the above areas.
Best wishes
Jessie
