Dorchester Town have made an offer for former Magpie Ryan Moss.
Manager Shaun Brooks admits he's been a long admirer of the Bashley striker and has now decided to pounce for the 21-year-old, who scored for a Dorchester XI in Brian Benjafield's testimonial against an Arsenal XI last month.
Brooks said: "We've put in an offer for Ryan. He did play in Benji's testimonial and scored lots of goals last year. He's also strong and has lots of physical presence.
"We are just waiting for acceptance from Bashley so we have to wait and see. There is a small fee involved but we are working within our budget.
"We've agreed terms with him but if the offer isn't accepted then it will go to arbitration because he's out of contract and under 24. I've been tracking him for several months and I think he'll be one the fans will get behind."
And Moss, who left Dorchester for Bashley in July 2006, isn't the only man on Brooks' wish list. The county town boss added: "We are also at an advanced stage of negotiation with five other players the majority of which have vast Confer-ence National or higher experience, although, I won't be revealing any names until the ink is dried on their contracts for obvious reasons."
The Magpies' reprieve from relegation will be officially confirmed today if expelled duo Halifax Town and Boston United lose their appeals against demotion from the Football Conference.
Brooks is hopeful that the news will help lure his summer targets.
He said: "The reprieve won't change the targets we are after but it might just tip it in our favour. The other clubs do have their appeals today but if we do get the reprieve then it we'll be more attractive to the players we are after."
Brooks is also aiming to put a season of misery behind him should their reprieve be rubber-stamped.
He added: "The reprieve will give us a fantastic opportunity, it's been well documented that last season was a learning curve for us. I knew it was going to be tough but some of the young players just couldn't get to grips quick enough and there were players we wanted that we couldn't get.
"If we can get the ones we're after then next season we'll be ultra competitive."
Meanwhile, midfielder James Rowe looks to be on his way out of Dorchester while the futures of top scorer Jones Awuah and keeper Francisco Ramos remain undecided.
Brooks said: "James has turned down our offer. He's in talks with a British Gas Business League side as far as I know. He did well for us last year but he wants to go part-time which is fine.
"What league we play in will make no difference to Jones. He wants to stay but it's purely a financial thing, he's just trying to earn a living for his family. I'd like to find a way to keep him, it's just whether he'll accept our offer.
"We've left it open with Chico. I like him as a character and a goalkeeper but he lives so far away. It's all about the logistics as opposed to ability. However, we are looking at other goalkeepers and there is one who is interested but is away on holiday at the moment."
* Dorchester Town and Weymouth will contest the inaugural South Coast Challenge Trophy, introduced by Magpies' director Neill Blake, when they meet in a pre-season friendly on Saturday, July 19 (3pm) at the Jewson Stadium.
The Magpies have also arranged a friendly at Devon-based outfit Stoke Gabriel on Thursday, July 31 (7.45pm).
