Have to take issue with your theory on supporters of the big four Chris, can't tell you how painful it is to be a Reds supporter these past couple of decades and it's certainly anything but easy.
For a team like Saints just staying in the Premier league constituted success whereas for the likes of us winning it means everything, so in those terms Saints have been far more successful than Liverpool over recent history.
We expect to be challenging for the title at least because of who we are and our history demands that we maintain our status in the big three (can't really count Chelsea as thats just money not history) at the very minimum, whilst you only ever had to stay out of the bottom three to see street parties in the Bevois Valley.
We might have bagged the the odd European & FA cup but it's the league that we are judged on and to see our dominance fade whilst the money making machine from Old Trafford have taken over at the top makes it even harder to stomach - imagine if you finished behind Pompey in the league that they continually won - and to be fair the Pompey / Saints rivalry is not on the same plain as the Reds / Mank one is it?
Trust me on this Chris it's anything but easy being a Liverpool fan at the moment
