Posted by Jacob Johnston So what causes the variation? Will breeding a unitufted bird produce mostly unitufted chicks in the tufted portion of the hatch, especially if bred to a nontufted bird? Or will that nontufted/unitufted cross be as likely to produce an evenly tufted offspring as an evenly tufted/nontufted mix? Is there any way to increase the size of the offspring's tufts without breeding the already tufted bird to another tufted bird?

I've read the tuft genetics section of Rings in Their Ears, but I'm still a bit curious about a couple of things. First, I have a bird with only a single tuft. Now this is a rather large tuft, but it's only the one. Second I have a couple of birds with very small tufts, but there are two of them and they're even.
