Posted by Karen on 9/7/2006, 2:41 am, in reply to "Dumb question..." I have a rumpless rooster, but he only has one gene for rumpless the other gene is for tailed. I just hatched some chicks from him and the hen has a tail. Statically 1/2 of the chicks should have been rumpless, but I only got one rumpless out of 9 chicks. On the other hand I also hatched some chicks from a different rooster that has one gene for rumpless and one gene for tailed. The mother has two genes for rumpless and all the chicks were rumpless. A bird with a full tail does not have the rumpless gene. When tailed is bred to tailed all you will get is tailed. If they are partially tailed then they have the rumpless gene. I started out with a partially rumpless rooster and he throw mostly completely rumpless offspring. Karen

Rumpless is dominant so you only need one gene to get rumpless chicks.
