Posted by Kim I was at a local feed store this spring, and they were selling chicks labeled as "araucana". I saw them and knew right away they were easter eggers. I said to the cashier that those chicks are not true araucanas, they are easter eggers (or ameraucanas). She said the breeder that they got them from told them they were araucanas. I laughed then I showed her a picture of my tufted/rumpless araucana roo. She didn't know what to say then!! LOL!! At least I educated one feed store clerk!!!

Looks like we will have to keep educating those on other poultry websites. That's the only way right now to spread the word. Once more consumers are educated, then one day big hatcheries will have egg on their face for misnaming what they are selling because more consumers will "call" them on it. It's like selling a draft horse and calling it a thoroughbred, LOL!!!!
