Members of the Ameraucana Breeders Club have been fighting this battle for some 25 years. I personally have corresponded with Murray McMurray himself via e-mail to no avail. The hatcheries are more interested in making a buck than honest labeling. They place themselves above the A.P.A. and the A.B.A. standards. The internet has proven to be a good tool to educate the general public, but unfortunately it can be used to disseminate ignorance just as easily.
But you're right - more of us need to become involved. But gently please, not with arrogance.
