Posted by Karen on 7/13/2006, 7:34 pm, in reply to "Re: Pasty butts rumpless chicks" Rosalyn, I knew about the oatmeal thing, but just never got around to fixing it for them. We're having some demolition work done this week end & I've been busy getting ready for that. I did notice today that they are looking a lot better. The chicks with the pasty butts are out of a new rumpless hen, didn’t think of that. BC & Joyce, come to think of it your right about breeding it out. I've never kept or bred from a bird with a pasty butt & haven't had one hatch for years. Like I said these chicks are from a new hen. I've been concentrating on color the last few years so haven’t hatched many rumpless chicks, but the ones that have hatched have all had clean rear ends. Now that I’m thinking about it, chicks with the dirty rear ends seem to be anatomically different than the ones with clean butts. Perhaps shorter backs? So when they defecate it doesn’t fall free it hits the back side, sticks and builds up. What a subject lol! Thank again for the feed back it’s help put things in perspective.
