This pastey butt thingy can be selected against. It does work, and it's not just one or two people saying that. Before the 80's, pastey butt was uncommon. I think we outcrossed to get new colours and didn't keep the modifying genes that make rumpless birds healthy and fertile. They are still there though, just not all in one bird most of the time. If all you have are pastey ones, mark the ones that are pastey less long. Breed them together...see if you get any that DON'T paste up. You just might.
