Posted by Andy Duplay She never did hatch any eggs. Her disability made it hard for her to keep the eggs under her, she would shift and they would pop out. Try as we did, she never was successful. It is funny how a stupid little chicken's life and death can have an impact on you! She was one of the first Araucanas I ever hatched. Although her mobility was very limited, her spirit shined through. I know some people think chickens are just dumb birds, but we in the chicken-freak community know they ARE relatively intelligent and have wonderful, individual personalities. I am not sure why she died. She ate and drank fine the morning she died. Her disabilities may have been internally as bad as her external ones. She was a sweet, beautiful little girl, and I still get sad when I pass her empty cage.

Many of you may remember my story about Eileen, my little lame white Araucana girl who decided to become a brooder. Eileen passed away on July 1, 10 months to the day from her birth.
