Hi Laurel, I have what sounds like your situation. Mine is about the size of a pencil and probably 1/2 in deep. I had my surgery about 7 weeks ago and I have seen my PS every week since. The wound started when my stiches were removed. We have had to do wet/dry bandages and the white material you are seeiing is dead flesh. Unfortunately the hole will not heal until the dead flesh is removed. So I have surgery planned in about 3 weeks. You really are lucky yours is not infected. have you not been doing anything like anti bacterial onintments or anything? I suggest go see another doctor ASAP.....Samatha
