Hi Sharon,
Thanks for your response. I have not changed PS. The one that did the surgery has been very responsive to my concerns so I felt it was easier to stay. A lot of my thoughts about persue legal actions were coming from the response I was getting from colleages and friends. I have decided at this point that it really isn't worth it. It is very possible that this is just something that happened and was no fault of the surgical team. We all knew going into our surgeries that it was a major procedure and had risks. THe PS and I discussed skin graphs as soon as the problem came up, but we both agreed that it wasn't a good idea. I already did not have enough blood supply to keep the tissue that was supposed to be there alive, what kind of guarentee did I have that I could keep a graph. I do think that if things did not begin to really progress soon, if the IV antibiotics didn't help healing that a graph would have been the next option. It has now been 12 1/2 weeks since my surgery and about 11 weeks since we noticed the dead skin...I had a small area of necrosis on the left side on the chest at a suture line...that is now pretty much closed. The left breast wound is 75% closed and the right is 1/2 way closed. I am now scheduled to go back to work on 2/2/04. It is the first time I have had a date to return to work since surgery that I believe might actually happen.
I really must say that it has been a God send to find people who have gone thru this themselves and I don't feel horrible about sharing with. Another site I post on has lots of people who haven't had it done and I worry about bringing them down. Thanks for everything.
Kristina
