Hi Sylvia, My surgery was on 10/21. I do truly understand the "raw meat" anology. Things are now healing well. I don't have any scabbing, there is actually scar tissue growing over the opened areas. In the past couple of days we seem to be seeing a lot of new skin forming over those holes. The PS originally said it should take an additional 6 weeks to heal but we were doing debriding every time I saw her for about a month. Did you only have this complication with one of your breasts? Emotionally, I have been a basket case. I go back and forth between trying to be positive and just being so depressed all I can do is cry. I am concerned about how this is effecting my husband and wether he will still find me attractive after having to look at that raw meat to help with the dressing changes for so long and then how will he feel once it is healed and there is all that scar tissue? He keeps reassuring me that there will be no problem with that. He jokes and tells me to remember he is a leg man not a breast man. I am concerned about work and will my employer continue to hold my job. Legally they only had to hold it for 12 weeks...at this point in time it will be at least 13 weeks before I return. I get upset when my kids want to hug me and they just can't the way they are used to because the one breast is so tender. I have done a lot of questioning as to why I did this too myself. Was it worth it? I have told my husband I am ready to just have the mastectomy's so it is over and done with. I need some normalcy in my life to begin to feel normal.
Well, thanks for your input. I hope you are also continuing to heal.
Kristina
