Posted by kristina Thanks again for your response and best of luck to you as you heal. When was your surgery (mine was 10/21/03)? How close are you to being healed? Kristina

Sylvia,
Thank you so much for your response. I have also spoken with Yvonne. I was afraid she and I were the only 2 in the world who were experiencing this. I was also asked about the smoking. I know it is possible that there was something about my body that caused this and not necessariyl negligence on my PS's part. I was fortunate that my PS took me seriously the very first time I said that things were dead. I did not have the odor that you described and I believe Yvonne also complained of. We did use some hydrocolloid gels for dressing changes when the wet to dry became too painful and continued to do that until I was readmitted for infection. In the hospital we used a chlorine type solution instead of plain saline and the dressings were changed 4 times a day with the help of IV morphine to control the pain. Now that I am home we are back to twice a day dressings but are still using the chlorine water. The pain is controllable with advil or tylox (Usually need the tylox for the nighttime change I guess just from being up and moving around). The PS did begin to suggest we go back to the gel dressings but said that this was working and asked if I would be willing to continue this way. I agreed. Things are finally healing so I think it is best to leave well enough alone. The wound on the left side is now almost 3/4 closed and the one on the right is a little less than 1/2 closed. I have no scabbing to the area. The left breast gives me no pain with dressings it is the right that is so raw.
