My condolences. My husband died from a heart attack in December 1999 at the age of 50.
Yes, your boyfriend's parents were absolutele idiots, and probably not realizing what they were doing. After all, they lost their son. You were a much-loved girlfriend, but you were not his wife. YOu said he had two sons. His sons are his heirs -- and and unless he left a will that names you as an heir to certain items, if you have no legal rights to prevent his parents from taking things. Spouse, children, parents, siblings ... if there is no spouse, the children of the deceased inherit ...
That said, the parents, obviously consumed by grief, acted in a bad way and should have waited -- but grief does strange things.
I would recommend getting into a grief support group to talk with others who are in similar grieving situtations. If you belong to a church, talk to your pastor or priest about this.
