Posted by YL Perth's a lovely place to visit but extremely quiet after 5pm on workdays and weekends. I personally wouldn't want to spend too long a period there alone, unless you have friends and/or family already there. Even so, it all depends on what you are looking for. If you seek more culture, nightlife and sophistication, you might want to consider Sydney. I have not been there myself but everyone tells me it's night and day between the 2 places. Can't really comment on Brisbane cos I've not been there myself, but you might want to compare the costs of living in the 2 states. Perth has gotten REALLY expensive in the past couple of years due to the resources boom in WA. Real estate prices have skyrocketed and there is a lot of hot money floating around. I'm not sure what job you are interviewing for in Australia, but if it's resource related, I would recommend going where the action is - assuming you are paid well enough of course! You also have to consider that domestic air travel costs as much as international airfares, so if you plan to use Perth as your base and hop around the continent, you will probably need to have a bigger budget for travel than if you were based in the east coast where most of the other states are located.

Ladies, I have been spending quite a bit of time in Perth the past year for work reasons. In fact I just returned from Perth yesterday, thus the much delayed response.
