Following the enormous destruction and the immense suffering caused by the catastrophic flooding of recent days in large areas of southern Russia, the Czech Republic, Romania and Moldova, the International Catholic pastoral charity Aid to the Church in Need is calling on all its benefactors to help with their donations. The funds raised will be channelled through local Church leaders, who can best assess the real need on the spot. Many priests are currently working round the clock to provide comfort and pastoral support for the victims of the flooding. Antonia Willemsen, secretary general of the charity, has announced that even after the flood waters have subsided, Aid to the Church in Need will still be involved in helping the parishes to clean up the damage.
