Posted by Project of the Week on 28/1/2003, 1:10 pm In Africa lay theologians play an important role in the proclamation of the Faith, especially as catechists and teachers of religion. In order for them to be equipped for their task they need thorough training. This is precisely the purpose of the Pontifical Institute for Studies in Marriage and the Family in Cotonou, the capital of the West African state of Benin. Here students from many countries of Africa receive a well grounded theological formation, fully in line with Church teaching.

Scholarship for a lay theologian from the archdiocese of N'Djamena
One such student is Augustin Diombeth from the archdiocese of N'Djamena in Chad. Just recently this father of three children completed his Masters degree with flying colours, and he is now hoping that the international Catholic charity Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) will also support him in the coming academic year 2002 /2003.
His bishop, Archbishop Charles Vandame of N'Djamena, has also expressed his support for a continuation of his studies, and so Aid to the Church in Need has now granted him a further scholarship of $5,500.
If you would like to know more or make a donation please ring the ACN office on (02) 9679-1929 or e-mail: info@aidtochurch.org
