Help for the evangelisation centre in Kaunas for 2009
"In the Eucharist our adoration should become union", said Pope Benedict XVI in his address during the vigil for the World Youth Day 2005 in Cologne. The evangelisation centre in Kaunas seeks to encourage both priests and laity alike to experience this and make it a reality in their own lives.
The well-known religious, Sister Briege McKenna, who holds retreats all over the world - ever since she herself was healed in a wonderful manner from a grave illness during the celebration of the Eucharist - is coming to Lithuania this year and will hold a number of meetings there, including days of reflection for priests and religious, and a eucharistic prayer meeting for all the faithful who seek a deeper encounter in their eucharistic adoration.
With 80% Catholics, Lithuania is the only majority Catholic country of the former Soviet Union. There are 100 priests there. ACN is supporting the training of its seminarians, but it is equally important for the priests who are already exercising their ministry - and for the laity too - to seek again and again to renew their relationship with Jesus Christ. In a world that is facing ever increasing secularisation this is especially important and at the same time a source of strength for priestly vocations. ACN has therefore promised $14,000 so that as many priests, religious and laity as possible can take part in these days of reflection, thereby not only awakening the light of love anew in themselves but also becoming living witnesses of God's presence for their near and dear ones.
