Extension and furnishing of the Byzantine-rite Catholic church in Tirgu Mures
Tirgu Mures belongs to the eparchy (diocese) of Alba Julia in western Romania. The parish has a total of some 1,450 faithful, of whom around 450 regularly attend the Sunday Liturgy. Hitherto the parish has had no church of its own and has therefore been forced to celebrate Mass in a rented hall belonging to the civic authorities, which moreover has space for only 135 people. Following long drawn-out negotiations with the authorities, the parishioners have finally been given the use of a building which they now wish to extend and convert into a church. It will be a centre not only for liturgical activity but also for pastoral and social work with children, young people and adults. But the community is very poor, and so the parish priest, Father Fodor Dan Liviu has turned to the Catholic charity Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) for help.
ACN has promised a contribution of $24,000. To help this cause please contact the Sydney office of ACN on (02) 9679-1929. e-mail: info@aidtochurch.org or write to Aid to the Church in Need PO Box 6245 Blacktown DC NSW 2148. Web: www.aidtochurch.org
