A vehicle for the Comboni Sisters in the town of Leer
The congregation of the Comboni Sisters was founded in Sudan in the second half of the 19th century by Saint Daniel Comboni. They are active in pastoral work, education and healthcare among the people and have been present since 1997 in the town of Leer, in the diocese of Malakal in the southeast of Sudan. However, in 1998 the sisters were forced by the civil war to leave this mission outpost. Not until after the peace accords of January 2005 was it possible to return and in fact it was only on 18 May 2006 that they were once more able to resume their work there. Now they are helping to rebuild the country. But the distances in the diocese are vast and good roads practically non-existent, and so the sisters desperately need a suitable vehicle. Their provincial Superior Sister Fulgida Gasparini has turned to the Catholic charity Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) for help.
ACN has promised a grant of $50,000. To help this cause please contact the Sydney office of ACN on (02) 9679-1929. e-mail: info@aidtochurch.org or write to Aid to the Church in Need PO Box 6245 Blacktown DC NSW 2148. Web: www.aidtochurch.org
