Support for the 113 consecrated missionaries of the Alliance of Mercy
The community of the Alliance of Mercy ("Alianca da Misericórdia") was founded in the year 2000 by Father Antonello Cadeddu, Father Enrico Porcu and Maria Paola, in Sao Paulo, Brazil. In 2005 it was recognized by Cardinal Hummes as a Private Association of the Faithful. By now the community has grown to over 250 members and includes priests, laity, celibate men and women and also married members, plus a further 900 associated lay members in 33 towns and cities. It sees its mission as one of bringing the expression of the Merciful Love of God to the poorest of the poor and, as "children of Mercy", evangelising the "lost sheep" by a combination of proclamation and witness to Christian charity. Its members live like the poor, with the poor and for the poor, and the movement is one of great social commitment. Members care for street children, the homeless, prostitutes, young delinquents and single mothers. In all, the community maintains 29 social and educational establishments. Currently, some 104 of its members are engaged either in the two-year training course or else at the School of Evangelisation ("Escola de Evangelizacao"), while the nine individuals who provide their training do so gratis, as a service of charity and preaching, in a spirit of trust in divine providence.
The catholic charity Aid to the Church in Need recently gave a grant of over $55,000 to help the work of this community.
