Mission outreach by ship on the River Amur
The missionary voyage of the 10th - 26th June 2008 along the River Amur was of great missionary significance. For although the city of Khabarovsk has witnessed a good measure of development, there is a great deal of evangelising work still to be done in the region along the river. The visual presence of the Church has a powerful psychological impact, and often many people come to the faith, are baptised and receive the sacraments as a result. Before their journey, a careful plan of missionary activity was worked out with those involved, from Moscow and other regions, and this was then put into practice during the voyage. In all, 20 population centres were visited.
The Archbishop of Khabarovsk, Mark Tuzikov, has requested the support of the Catholic charity Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) for this pioneering missionary voyage, and for other similar missions that are planned for the future.
ACN has promised a grant of $29,000. To help this cause please contact the Sydney office of ACN on (02) 9679-1929. e-mail: info@aidtochurch.org or write to Aid to the Church in Need PO Box 6245 Blacktown DC NSW 2148. Web: www.aidtochurch.org
