GUINEA
Training of 40 young women by the congregation of the Sisters of Our Lady of Guinea
Over 80% of Guinea’s 10 million or so inhabitants are Muslims, while only 4 or 5% are Catholics. But in 1919 the Congrégation des Soeurs de Notre Dame de Guinée was established on the initiative of a young Guinean woman, Thérèse Beynis. Their mission is to evangelise those who do not yet believe in Christ. Education plays a vital role in this and the sisters want to make an active contribution to improving the overall school education of the people. But in doing so they have not lost sight of the importance of training their own future vocations. There are 40 young women currently interested in joining the congregation, and in order to provide them with an appropriate formation, the Superior, Sister Marie Renée Boiro has turned to the Catholic charity Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) for support, together with her bishop, Archbishop Vincent Coulibaly of Conakry.
ACN has promised a grant of $5,700. To help this cause please contact the Sydney office of ACN on (02) 9679-1929. e-mail: info@aidtochurch.org or write to Aid to the Church in Need PO Box 6245 Blacktown DC NSW 2148. Web:www.aidtochurch.org
