A house for catechetical instruction in the diocese of My Tho
The parish of Vinh Hung was officially established only in 2006. It lies in the extremely poor and underdeveloped region, on the frontier with Cambodia, and serves a community of over 1,400 Catholic faithful. For many years the people did not even have a place to celebrate Mass or gather for prayer. And until recently they had to travel nearly 40 miles (60 km) to attend Sunday Mass in Moc Hoa. But in 2006 they managed to build a simple church, entirely by their own efforts, and also put up a small, makeshift building where children and young people could be instructed in the Faith. This is a place where there is no healthcare provision for the elderly, where young people are frequently unemployed and where children leave school too soon. And so their parish priest has set himself a new goal - to replace this makeshift building with a proper house. He has already obtained the necessary building permit, and now all he needs is the financial backing.
ACN has promised a grant of $12,000. To help this cause please contact the Sydney office of ACN on (02) 9679-1929. e-mail: info@aidtochurch.org or write to Aid to the Church in Need PO Box 6245 Blacktown DC NSW 2148. Web:www.aidtochurch.org
